SAC President Elected to American Association of Community Colleges (AACC)
May 14, 2018
Dr. Robert Vela, president of San Antonio College, has been elected to serve on the board of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). His term, which will begin on July 1, will be for three years.
The AACC is the primary advocacy organization for the nation's community colleges. The association represents around 1,200 two-year associate degree granting institutions and more than 12 million students.
The Board of Directors is composed of 32 members and includes college presidents, chancellors, and trustees from across the nation. The board acts on behalf of the institutional members to create and maintain the vision for the association and to ensure it adheres to appropriate standards of performance.
In addition to being elected to the AACC board, Dr. Vela is also the president-elect of the National Community College Hispanic Council (NCCHC). An affiliate of the AACC, the NCCHC is the nation's premier organization for preparation and support of Hispanic leaders in America's community colleges.
